ATHENS, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- A total of 56 people across Greece have died from flu-related complications during the current flu season, Greece's Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KEELPNO) said on Thursday.

A week ago, the death toll stood at 39. In their latest press statement, Greek experts reiterated the significance of vaccination for people belonging to population segments at higher risk of complications.

Eight out of ten of those who lost their lives so far were not vaccinated although they had prior health problems, the statement said.

KEELPNO epidemiologists expect the flu season in Greece to end in April.

During the previous 2017-2018 flu season, KEELPNO recorded 42 fatalities, down from 108 in the 2016-2017 winter season.
