GAZA, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- At least seven Palestinians were injured on Monday evening during clashes between Palestinian demonstrators and Israeli soldiers in eastern Gaza, medics said.

Ashraf al-Qedra, Health Ministry spokesman in Gaza, told reporters that seven Palestinians were injured by Israeli soldiers' gunfire in eastern Gaza city, close to the border with Israel.

Dozens of Palestinian demonstrators, recognizing themselves as members of the Night Disturbance Unit, gathered on Monday night near the border between eastern Gaza and Israel, according to eyewitnesses.

They said the demonstrators burned tires, threw dozens of sound bombs and tried to cut the barbed wire of the fence of the border, adding that Israeli snipers opened fire at them and wounded nine demonstrators.

Day and night protests on the border between eastern Gaza Strip and Israel have been going on since March 30, better known as "the Great March of Return" to break the Israeli siege.

On Sunday night, 19 Palestinian demonstrators were shot and wounded during similar night clashes between Palestinian demonstrators and Israeli soldiers east of the southern Gaza Strip city of Khan Younis, close to the border with Israel, said al-Qedra.

According to Gaza health officials, more than 250 Palestinians have been killed and 26,000 others injured since the start of the marches.
