BEIJING, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- 13.9 million rural immigrants settled in cities in China were granted urban household registration in 2018, according to China's Ministry of Public Security.

The ministry has also issued more than 24 million urban residential permits nationwide in 2018, according to the ministry.

Urban household registration permits are definitive documents that grant the rural migrants new identities as urban citizens and entitle them to local social welfare.

Sun Lijun, deputy minister of public security, urged more efforts be made to push forward the reform of public security management with household registration as its focus at a recent conference.

He also emphasized on the use of big data in increasing the efficiency of public security management work at the conference.
