GUANGZHOU, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- China Southern Airlines (China Southern) announced Wednesday that it had successfully completed its first intercontinental flight with aviation biofuel.

The newly delivered Airbus A320neo single-aisle airplane was delivered from Toulouse in France to Guangzhou in southern China's Guangdong Province through ferry flight, using aviation fuel with 10 percent biofuel made from sugarcane, said China Southern.

The Guangzhou-based air carrier has a fleet of about 840 airplanes, ranking the first in Asia and third worldwide.

It is China's largest air carrier with the biggest passenger volume and air route network. To date, the company operates more than 3,000 flights to 224 destinations in more than 40 countries and regions.

Pursuing green development, China Southern pays close attention to the global aviation biofuel research and commercial application, particularly the aviation biofuel-tech in China.

The air carrier has been exploring ways to raise energy use efficiency by measures including introducing new engine models and optimizing the air route network.
