Vietnam's HCM City attracts more FDI projects in first 2 months this year

HO CHI MINH CITY, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City licensed 165 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with total registered capital of nearly 96.7 million U.S. dollars in the first two months of this year, the municipal Department of Planning and Investment said Monday.

Meanwhile, the city saw 31 operational FDI projects increase their capital by a total of 31 million U.S. dollars, up 19.2 percent in project number and up 470 percent in additional capital.

Also in the two-month period, Ho Chi Minh City allowed 554 foreign investors to spend over 894 million U.S. dollars buying shares or contributing capital to Vietnamese enterprises, posting respective year-on-year rises of 28 percent and 2.2 percent.

Between January and February, Vietnam lured FDI of roughly 3.3 billion U.S. dollars, up 57.8 percent against the same period last year, according to the Foreign Investment Agency under the Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment.
