JERUSALEM, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Israel's army said its air force struck Hamas posts in the Gaza Strip on Monday in response to "explosive device" sent toward Israel attached to balloons.

On Monday afternoon, balloons carrying explosive devices were launched from the southern Gaza Strip toward Israeli territory, a military spokesperson said in a statement describing the incident.

Israeli media reported that the balloons landed between two buildings in the Eshkol Regional Council in southern Israel.

No injuries or damage were reported, according to the army.

Shortly later, Israeli attack helicopters targeted what the military said were two Hamas military posts in the southern Gaza Strip.

A similar incident occurred on Sunday, with the army attaching Hamas posts after helium-filled balloons with incendiary materials were sent toward southern Israel.

Palestinians have for months occasionally sent balloons with incendiary materials or explosives amid protests and clashes along the fence separating between the besieged enclave and Israel.

At least 251 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces since the protest started last March.
