44th World Bridge Team Championships to be held in Wuhan

WUHAN, March 13 (Xinhua) -- The 44th World Bridge Team Championships will take place on September 14th in central China's metropolis of Wuhan, where about 800 people will vie for the trophies.

The World Bridge Federation and Chinese Contract Bridge Association held a signing ceremony on Tuesday, announcing Wuhan as the host city for the 15-day tournament. In the meantime, the 12th World Transnational Open Teams event will also be held in the city.

The World Bridge Team Championships, the biennial top-level tournament of its kind, was founded in 1950. The Championships, held in odd-numbered years, comprise the Bermuda Bowl (open teams), Venice Cup (women's teams), D'Orsi Senior Bowl (senior teams) and the newly-introduced Mixed National Teams event.

The Chinese women's team won the Venice Cup twice in 2009 and 2017 and they are ready to defend their title on home soil.

During the time, 12th World Transnational Open Teams will allow more bridge lovers to attend world-class competition. Without restrictions on qualification, an estimated 1,400 people from different countries and regions are expected to participate in the competitions.

The 44th World Bridge Team Championships will be held from September 14 -28 and the 12th World Transnational Open Teams is scheduled for September 23-28.
