DUBAI, March 18 (Xinhua) -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is set to create 30,000 jobs for citizens in the private sector this year, said Nasser bin Thani Al Hamli, minister of Human Resources and Emiratization.

The initiative is to double the ministry's emiratization efforts, the minister was quoted as saying by the National newspaper website on Monday.

"The ministry managed to create 20,225 jobs to Emirati citizens in 2018 compared with 6,862 in 2017," Al Hamli said, adding "up to 11,700 UAE nationals have availed these job opportunities."

The ministry has also developed a special club for partners of emiratization to offer them more privileges and encourage them to recruit more locals, he said.

Al Hamli further added that the UAE is to witness massive changes by 2031 that will significantly affect the labor market and create new sectors with more Emirati citizens -- "up to 610,000 nationals" expected to join the workforce.
