WARSAW, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Former Polish national team manager Adam Nawalka has been sacked as coach of top-league Polish side Lech Poznan after less than a year in the job, local media reported on Monday.

His dismissal comes after Poznan struggled to impress this season, with the 61-year-old veteran manager presiding over just 11 games since his appointment in November 2018.

During that time, Nawalka chalked up just five victories but suffered five defeats and one draw.

"We have great respect for Adam Nawalka, which is why the decision was not easy," Lech chairman Karol Klimczak told the club's official online portal.

Lech Poznan play in Poland's Ekstraklasa - the nation's top flight league.

"Both the manager and we were well aware that not only the team's scores fell far below our expectations but also the players' general attitude," Klimczak added.

Nawalka is well known in Poland. Last summer he stepped down as manager of the national squad after his team lost their opening two games and were the first European side to be knocked out of the World Cup in Russia.

Media reported that after he lost his job as national team manager, Nawalka received an offer from a Chinese Super League club.

As a player, Nawalka was part of the Poland team at the 1978 World Cup, having 34 caps for his country.

Dariusz Zuraw has been appointed as the new Poznan manager.
