WASHINGTON, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Former finalist Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia dispatched Johanna Larsson of Sweden 6-1, 6-4 to make the second round of the Volvo Car Open held in Charleston, the United States on Monday.
The No. 10 seed and 2017 runner-up needed just 75 minutes to finish the game.
After losing serve in the opening game of the match, the Latvian was dominant, breaking the Swede's serve three times to win the opener and once more to seal a tight second set.
The first eight games of the second went with serve as Larsson saved one break point in each of the first and fifth games, but the Swede was unable to hold off Ostapenko in the ninth game, dropping serve to give her opponent a decisive break.
Ostapenko did not face a break point in the second set. The former French Open champion will next face the winner of American Shelby Rogers or Russia's Evgeniya Rodina.
