BEIJING, April 2 (Xinhua) -- Public security bureaus in China nationwide continue to crack down on wildlife crimes and strengthen protection of endangered wild animals, according to China Police Daily's report.
The Shandong provincial public security bureau launched in late March a special campaign against wildlife crimes, which will last until the end of June. In this campaign, public security authorities will carry out investigations in places such as restaurants and markets where illegal actions are likely to occur. Illegal hunting, acquisition and sale of migratory birds are the focus of the crackdown.
Forestry police in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region have conducted an array of campaigns to fight against wildlife crimes in recent years. From January 2015 to December 2018, a total of 73,000 cases were handled with about 273,700 wild animals confiscated and a total of 71,000 people involved.
Since July 2018, four large-scale transnational cases of illegal acquisition, transportation and sale of precious and endangered wildlife products were detected in Guangxi, and 24 criminal suspects were arrested.
