Namibia to host African Mountain Bike Championships

WINDHOEK, April 3 (Xinhua) -- Preparations are nearing completion as the Namibian Cycling Federation (NCF) puts the finishing touches on its plans to host the African Mountain Bike (MTB) Championships in the capital Windhoek, according to an NCF representative.

Speaking to Xinhua Wednesday, communications officer Benjamin Haidula said the championships will be held on April 12 and 13 and that the Namibian contingent is prepared.

"Namibia has eight riders that will participate. Most teams have five to eight riders, but the largest contingent is 42 riders who will be under the South African banner," he said.

The course is at Farm Windhoek, which has become a venue for fitness guru's and a hub for company wellness events, and so far, Lesotho, Botswana, Zambia, Mauritius had confirmed their attendance, while Morocco was still to confirm, according to Haidula.

Events will range from both men and women elite, junior and U23's as well as the mixed relay.

The occasion marks the second time that Namibia has hosted the championships.
