UNITED NATIONS, April 10 (Xinhua) -- Civilians caught in crossfire are being killed and injured in the latest outbreak of fighting in Chin and Rakhine states of Myanmar, a UN spokesman said on Wednesday.

Humanitarian colleagues also reported the victims "are concerned by reported use of indiscriminate and heavy weapons in populated areas," said Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

"The UN calls on all parties to the conflict to comply with their obligations under international human rights law and international humanitarian law to find a peaceful solution," Dujarric said at a regular briefing.

Access restrictions across Rakhine have limited or cut off support and services to some 95,000 people, he said. "The longer this continues, the more at risk these already fragile and in-need communities across the state become."

At least 26,000 people across Rakhine and Chin states have been forced to flee their homes, Dujarric told reporters.
