BEIRUT, April 11 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government on Thursday offered a donation to the Lebanese government for the construction of a new conservatory in the country.

An agreement on the donation was signed between Chinese Ambassador to Lebanon Wang Kejian and Nabil El Jisr, president of Lebanon's Council for Development and Reconstruction, in the presence of Lebanese Culture Minister Mohammad Daoud.

Wang said it is the first China-funded complete project in Lebanon, which is a symbol of cooperation between the two countries.

The conservatory "will play an important role in promoting cultural exchanges between China and Lebanon," the Chinese ambassador noted.

For his part, Daoud told Xinhua that this agreement is very important for Lebanon.

"This reflects the depth of relations between the two countries and China's attention to Lebanon's cultural role in the region," he said.

With an expected cost of 31.9 million U.S. dollars, the conservatory will cover 25,000 square meters in Dbayeh, a town in the northern suburb of the capital Beirut.

It will house an advanced music show room, which can host up to 1,200 people.
