Chinese shares end higher Friday

BEIJING, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shares closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index ending at 3,270.8 points, up 0.63 percent.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.27 percent higher at 10,418.24 points.

Combined turnover of stocks in the two indices stood at 720.4 billion yuan (about 107.5 billion U.S. dollars), shrinking from 753.4 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Gainers outnumbered losers by 870 to 532 at the Shanghai bourse and 1,390 to 686 in Shenzhen.

Gree Electric Appliances, one of China's leading home appliance brands, bucked the downward trend in the afternoon session and gained 9.24 percent to close at 65 yuan per share.

Automakers also demonstrated strong performances, led by Yangzhou Yaxing Motor Coach Co., which saw its share price rise by the daily limit 10 percent to 9.79 yuan.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, went up 0.66 percent to close at 1,715.8 points Friday.
