35 pct of Brazilians consider gov't doing good job: survey

BRASILIA, April 24 (Xinhua) -- About 35 percent of Brazilians said the government of President Jair Bolsonaro is optimal or good, according to a survey released Wednesday.

The Ibope Institute survey, carried out on behalf of the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), showed that 31 percent of the respondents considered that the government is doing regular, and 27 percent considered it is doing bad or lousy.

Also, 51 percent of the respondents approved of Bolsonaro's governing, while 40 percent disapproved and 9 percent didn't know or declined to answer, according to the survey, which is the first by Ibope-CNI on Bolsonaro's government since he took office on Jan. 1.

The performance of the government was most approved for improving security, education and environment.

On the other hand, the government was most disapproved for policies related to interest rates and taxes.

For the rest tenure of Bolsonaro's administration, 45 percent believe the president can do an optimal or good job, while 23 percent were pessimistic.

Ibope interviewed 2,000 people in 126 municipalities of all Brazilian states between April 12 and April 15. The survey has a margin of error of 2 percentage points.
