BEIJING, April 25 (Xinhua) -- More than 30 million tonnes of recycled products were made from construction waste last year in Beijing, according to local authorities Thursday.

The products were then used in the construction of public facilities and other government-invested projects, according to the municipal commission of housing and urban-rural development.

Beijing issued a guideline last April to promote the recycling of construction waste, stipulating responsibilities of competent departments of various levels, requirements for the use of recycled products and preferential tax policies to attract enterprises.

By the end of March, 103 sites of construction waste recycling have been established in Beijing, among which 88 are now operating, handling about 85 million tonnes of waste every year.

Ten more recycling sites, with a combined capacity of over 5 million tons, are under construction.

After being crushed, filtered and processed to become recycled aggregate, the waste can be used as raw materials to produce bricks, mortar and concrete.
