BUENOS AIRES, May 9 (Xinhua) -- A 95th-minute strike from substitute Carlos Tevez ensured Boca Juniors finished top of their Copa Libertadores group as the Argentine giants defeated Athletico Paranaense 2-1 on Thursday.

Marco Ruben gave the Brazilian side the lead at Boca's La Bombonera with a 66th-minute header before Tevez's 69th-minute introduction turned the match.

Playing with more verve and urgency, Boca equalized in the 72nd minute when Lisandro Lopez volleyed in following Mauro Zarate's lofted cross.

The visitors were then reduced to 10 men following an overzealous tackle by Wellington Martins on Tevez which earned the midfielder a straight red card.

Tevez completed the turnaround in the last minute of stoppage time by lashing a low 25-yard drive beyond the outstretched arms of Athletico goalkeeper Aderbar Santos.

The result meant Boca finished first in Group G with 11 points from six matches, two points ahead of Athletico, who also advanced to the knockout phase.

In the western Argentine city of Mendoza, hosts Godoy Cruz booked a spot in the last 16 with a 1-0 defeat of Chile's Universidad Concepcion, who were eliminated.

Peru's Sporting Cristal were dumped out of the competition despite defeating Group C leaders Olimpia 1-0 in Paraguayan capital Asuncion.

And Peruvian side Deportes Lima, who also entered their final group match without a chance of advancing, won 2-0 away to the eliminated Jorge Wilstermann of Bolivia.
