LOS ANGELES, May 12 (Xinhua) -- Frank Vogel will become the new coach for the Los Angeles Lakers with Jason Kidd as his assistant, media reports said Saturday.

According to reports of ESPN and the Los Angeles Times, each citing anonymous sources, Vogel has agreed to a three-year contract, which has not been finalized, to coach the Lakers assisted by former NBA star point guard Jason Kidd.

Vogel flew to Los Angeles on Thursday to discuss the deal with Lakers, which has missed the NBA playoffs for six consecutive seasons and hopes to rebound from slump. The move for new coach comes after Luke Walton parted ways with Lakers last month due to a disappointing season.

Frank Vogel coached the Indiana Pacers for a successful six-season tenure, when he guided the Pacers to the Eastern Conference finals in 2013 and 2014. Later, Vogel had a two-season tenure as head coach of the Orlando Magic from 2016 to 2018.
