BEIJING, May 17 (Xinhua) -- China on Friday deeply mourned for the passing away of world-renowned architect Ieoh Ming Pei, commonly known as I.M. Pei, and conveyed its sincere condolences to his family.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang made the remarks at a news briefing, adding that Mr. Pei had long contributed to the mutual understanding of the Chinese and American people, as well as cultural exchanges between East and West.
Pei died Thursday at age 102.
