HEFEI, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Officials from eastern Chinese provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui as well as Shanghai Municipality signed 10 cooperative agreements Wednesday in an effort to accelerate regional integration.

Covering a wide range of areas such as transportation, industries, technology and people's livelihoods, the deals are mainly designed to tackle administrative barriers and promote the flow of people and goods in the four localities, collectively known as the Yangtze River Delta region.

For instance, one deal involves closing cross-province highway toll stations and another aims at easing settlement of medical bills across the region.

Heads of major universities in the region, including Zhejiang University and Fudan University, also signed an agreement to form a league to promote academic exchange.

The Yangtze River Delta should play an exemplary role in seeking regional integration and high-quality development to boost the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt and east China and build a regional cluster of high-quality development, according to statement issued after a meeting held by the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee in mid-May.
