AMMAN, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Jordan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that two Jordanians kidnapped earlier this week in Syria were released on Thursday.

The Jordanian embassy in Damascus said that it was notified on Thursday evening that the two citizens who were kidnapped on Tuesday have returned to Jordan, the embassy said in a statement.

The citizens were kidnapped because of a financial dispute, the Jordanian ministry said.

The ministry thanked the Syrian Foreign Ministry for its cooperation and its role in the release of the two Jordanians.

Since the reopening of the border with Syria in mid-October last year, Syria has arrested 30 Jordanians, eight of whom have been released while the 22 others are still being detained.
