CHICAGO, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) sold 218,702 vehicles in the U.S. market in May, up 2 percent from the same month last year, thanks to the strong demand for pick-up trucks.
In FCA's monthly sales report released on Monday, the Italian-American automaker said that its Ram brand achieved 12th consecutive monthly record as May sales rose 29 percent.
Although Grand Cherokee notched best May ever as sales climbed 18 percent, the Jeep brand as a whole plunged 7 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, Dodge Charger, a performance car, reported highest May in six years as sales reached 9,296 vehicles, which led to 3 percent overall increase for Dodge brand.
However, FCA's Chrysler brand suffered a 26 percent fall in May sales.
"On a year-over-year basis, we have increased our average transaction prices by more than 3,000 U.S. dollars a vehicle and still managed some notable sales increases," said Reid Bigland, FCA U.S. head of sales.
Fleet represented 31 percent of total FCA U.S. sales in May. On a year-to-date basis, fleet accounted for 22 percent of sales.
