MEDELLIN, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Former Mexico and Paraguay international manager Juan Carlos Osorio has been appointed head coach of Atletico Nacional, the Colombian club said on Monday.

The 57-year-old replaces Brazilian Paulo Autuori, who stepped down last month following the team's elimination from the Copa Sudamericana.

Osorio will be taking charge of Nacional for the second time, having previously led the Medellin-based club from 2012 to 2015.

"Juan Carlos Osorio returns to Atletico Nacional's coaching job and will begin working in [July] to contest the league and the Copa Colombia," read a club statement.

Atletico Nacional have been in rapid decline since winning the Copa Libertadores - South America's top club competition - for a second time in 2016.

The team was bundled out of the second stage of Colombia's Apertura first division tournament earlier this month with just one win from six group matches.

It will be Osorio's first managerial role since ending his four-month spell as Paraguay boss by mutual consent in February. The Colombian was head coach of Mexico from 2015 to 2018 and led the Tricolor to the last 16 of last year's World Cup in Russia.
