RIO DE JANEIRO, June 28 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's Sao Paulo Stock Exchange's Ibovespa indicator accumulated a rise of 14.8 percent in the first six months of the year 2019.

It was the best result for the first half of a year since 2016, when the Ibovespa registered an increase of 18 percent.

On Friday, the Ibovespa rose 0.24 percent to 100,967 points. The indicator this week accumulated a fall of 1.02 percent, breaking a sequence of five consecutive weekly rises. However, the indicator accumulated a rise of 4.06 percent in June.

The positive results of the day were mainly attributed to the announcement of a free trade agreement between the Southern Common Market (Mercosur), of which Brazil is a member, and the European Union. The agreement, which was hammered out after 20 years of negotiation, is expected to increase Brazil's GDP by 87.5 billion U.S. dollars over the next 15 years, according to the government.

The Brazilian Real-U.S. Dollar exchange rate closed at 3.84 reals per dollar on Friday. During the week, the U.S. dollar appreciated 0.47 percent against the Brazilian Real.

In June, the dollar registered depreciation, falling 2.11 percent against the Real. In the first six months, the dollar depreciated 0.85 percent against Real.
