HONG KONG, June 30 (Xinhua) -- The Greater Bay Festival opened here Sunday to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 22nd anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

Organized by the Hong Kong Celebration Association, the three-day festival is open to public on Saturday. It takes place in the Victoria Park on the Hong Kong Island, featuring new technology, pop music and culture, sports and cuisines.

Officiating at the opening ceremony, Cheung Kin-chung, chief secretary for administration of the HKSAR government, said this year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and Chinese people should feel proud of the country's significant development.

Hong Kong enjoys the dual advantages under the principle of "one country, two systems" and benefits from the opportunities brought about by the mainland's rapid and flourishing development, he added.

The Hong Kong Celebration Association has launched a string of activities to celebrate the 70th National Day and the 22nd anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR, and the festival is one of the highlight events.

The association expected the festival to attract 100,000 visitors.

Hong Kong resident Sze and his son joined the opening ceremony of the festival and visited some booths. He told Xinhua that he went to the event to share the joy of celebrating the 22nd anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland to learn more about the latest development of new technology.
