TOKYO, July 1 ( Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed sharply higher Monday with the Nikkei index hitting a nearly two-month high.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 454.05 points, or 2.13 percent, from Friday at 21,729.97, its highest close since May 7.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, finished 33.71 points, or 2.17 percent, higher at 1,584.85.
Every industry category on the main section gained ground, led by marine transportation, electric appliance and metal product issues.
