RIO DE JANEIRO, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian football giant Corinthian Club announced on Wednesday that Gil, former foreign player with Shandong Luneng F.C., will return to Sao Paulo. He is expected to go back to the Corinthian Club next week and begin training after completing his physical examination.

The Corintian Club issued a communique on the same day that the 32-year-old Gil had signed a six-month contract with the club, but could renew it to three years after its expiration. The club said it was Gil's wish to sign a six-month contract first.

Gil wrote in his social media that day: "It's a great honor to sign with the Corinthian Club. During my stay in Brazil, I work for the Corinthians only."

It is reported that after Gil, the centre-back, announced that he would return to Brazil, a number of Brazilian clubs competed to sign with him, but ultimately Gll chose to return to his old club, Corinthian.

Since 2016, Gil has played for Luneng for three seasons, representing Luneng 134 times and scoring 11 goals. Before heading to China, Gill also played for the Corinthians for three seasons with 184 appearances. In 2014, he was selected to coach Dunga's Brazil team and participated in two friendly matches against Colombia and Ecuador.
