MANILA, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese home appliances giant Haier donated appliances, living facilities to a local orphanage in Quezon City, Metro Manila on Friday.
The appliances and living facilities, including refrigerators, TVs, electric cookers and other living, studying equipment which are suitable for the daily use of some 150 children, were turned over to the Gentle Hands Incorporated during the ceremony held on Friday afternoon.
Elle Catihanan, the executive assistant of the orphanage, expressed her gratitude on behalf of the children. She said she is grateful to the Chinese company for its assistance in giving the facilities which will enable children living, studying under a better condition.
"It is the first time we receive the appliances what we need the most. The children now can have better food, watch HD cartoon thanks to the advanced appliances," she said.
Yan Xuhong, the President and CEO of Haier Philippines Inc., told Xinhua that he hopes the appliances could help to lift the children's living quality.
Yan said that this is a new fruit of the Haier's global charitable campaign called "Snap, Help and Win" which launched in April. "The campaign aims to help the communities from over 100 countries and regions by the netizens sharing photos on social media to show the love with Haier," he said.
"We want to start the campaign with an organization like Gentle Hands that helps children and believes every child deserves a home that will care, love and prepare them in becoming the future of the country," he said, adding that they are glad to share their love by shouldering the social responsibilities in the Philippines.
Gentle Hands Orphanage in Quezon City, where some 150 children from zero to 16-year-old live in, is a 24-hour residential care facility that provides social work, medical, educational, and recreational to orphaned, neglected and abandoned children.
