BEIJING, July 11 (Xinhua) -- A new heavy-duty electric-drive dump truck that can be used in mines and hydropower projects has come off the production line in the city of Datong in Shanxi Province, China Science Daily reported Thursday.

The giant truck was developed by the CRRC Datong Co. Ltd., a branch of the CRRC Corporation. It can be used for transportation in open-pit mines and large-scale water conservancy and hydropower projects, according to the newspaper.

The truck has a loading capacity of 240 tonnes and can operate at a speed of 57 km per hour. The key technologies and components of the vehicle are all independently developed by the CRRC Datong Co. Ltd.

The truck is energy efficient as it is powered by both liquefied natural gas (LNG) and diesel fuel, which helps reduce the use cost by 8 to 15 percent and reduce greenhouse gas emissions such as carbon dioxide by about 20 percent, according to the report.
