WINDHOEK, July 15 (Xinhua) -- Bobby Samaria has been appointed head coach of the Namibia national football team for the upcoming 2020 African Nations Championships (CHAN) qualifiers against Comoros on July 26 and August 2, the FIFA Normalization Committee confirmed Monday.

Samaria makes a return to the national team fold after some time away, and FIFA Normalization Committee chair Hilda Basson-Namundjebo confirmed his appointment in a statement.

"We have got a coach for the CHAN team and we believe Bobby has the right mentality and enthusiasm to lead the team at this juncture. We were never going to pull out of these important qualifiers and the team starts training on Tuesday," she added.

Samaria, who won Namibian league titles with African Stars in 2009, 2010 and 2017, has called up 31 players to the national team's training camp.

"We have only this week here and on Monday, July 22, we leave for Comoros and I must emphasize that we are pressed for time," Samaria said.

Should Namibia overcome Comoros, they will then enter the third and final round of qualifiers against either Madagascar or Mozambique.
