GWANGJU, South Korea, July 15 (Xinhua) -- The world swimming champion Sun Yang embarks on his seventh journey of FINA World Championships as he entered the international natatorium in Gwangju to attend the first training course on Monday.

This is Sun's seventh FINA Worlds since 2007, writing a new chapter for Chinese swimmers to participate in the world championships.

"A few swimmers, not past 10, competed more World Championships (than me) in the world, maybe Katinka Hosszu of Hungary is one of them," Sun said. "I keep my daily training at a high level, so I can stand here for my 7th Worlds."

Sun trained in Hong Kong and Shenzhen before he came here on July 14, and he confessed he almost cried after the tense training. He will compete in 200m, 400m and 800m freestyles and some relays when the swimming competition starts on July 21.

"I want to get more ready for the competition. I want to get involved, get sunk and excited in the atmosphere here. I watched diving, and duet swimming competitions here and saw my teammates from our administration. I feel excited and eager to start my competition. This helps me a lot," Sun added.

Coach Zhu Zhigen said Sun will only take 1-2 training sessions in Gwangju. "Relax, adjust and keep the condition. Be healthy and ready - these are what we're going to do here," Zhu said.
