TEGUCIGALPA, July 15 (Xinhua) -- The Honduran Foreign Ministry warned on Monday that its consular offices in the Unites States would be braced for a spike of immigrant deportations while pledging legal help for potential deportees.

The move on the Honduran side came after the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency was on Sunday set to launch inspections of homes and businesses in 10 U.S. cities with large immigrant populations to round up undocumented migrants.

"We call on our compatriots to remain calm. If approached, do not reveal your immigration status. Ask to see an arrest warrant before opening the door to immigration authorities, and above all do not give false information," the ministry said in a statement.

Immigration lawyers are available to provide potential deportees with legal advice, it noted in the statement that also provided information about the individual rights.

An estimated 1 million Hondurans are living in the United States, including 44,000 with "temporary protected status" due to expire in October 2021.
