WUHAN, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Police in Wuhan, the capital city of central China's Hubei Province, have detained 10 suspects responsible for the fire that broke out Sunday in a historic hotel in the city.

At about 1:00 p.m. Sunday, a 47-year-old welder surnamed Guo was cutting the iron frame of the cooling tower of the Jianghan Hotel. Because of his illegal operations, a fire broke out and damaged the building's top floor.

He was detained by police Monday.

The fire started at around 3 p.m. on the top floor of the century-old Jianghan Hotel and was basically brought under control at around 6 p.m. with nobody reported hurt, according to the local fire department.

The five-story hotel opened business in 1910. It was being renovated when the accident happened.

Other suspects detained include board chairman of the hotel and that of the contractor of the renovation project.
