HOHHOT, July 19 (Xinhua) -- China has developed a full-text retrieval system for "The Secret History of the Mongols," the oldest surviving literary work in the Mongolian language written in the 13th century.

Supported by the National Social Science Fund of China, the system was launched for tests recently. Readers can search the text of the book online.

The system is primarily used for linguistics studies of the book, with search categories including text, part of speech, morphology, lexical element, semantic class and para-translation.

The "Secret History of the Mongols" is a historic text which records the formation and development of the Mongolian people. It serves as an important text for understanding the culture, economy, military, folklore and language of the Mongolian ethnicity.

Experts say the retrieval system is expected to facilitate further analysis of the text and exploration of changes to the Mongolian language.
