Yang Jian, Yang Hao complete one-two on men's 10m platform for China in Gwangju

GWANGJU, July 20 (Xinhua) -- The Game-high point 114.80 and 17 perfect marks - in a showdown between Chinese divers Yang Jian and Yang Hao in the men's 10m platform final, Yang Jian finally shined as the newly-crowned champion at 18th FINA World Swimming Championships here on Saturday.

World Cup champion Yang Jian showed good balance of consistence and difficulty in all his six divers, winning his first World Championships title by 598.65 points.

China wrapped up 12 gold, 9 silver, one bronze diving medals when the diving competition was concluded on Saturday while Australia snatched the only gold left in mixed 3m springboard synchro.

"It was my third worlds and I had my best last dive in the career. It was the most challenging dive. I wanted to give thumbs up to myself," said the 25-year-old who kissed the pool after winning the title.

Yang Hao, 21, synchro platform champion in Budapest, showed six flawless attempts by earning 13 perfect marks despite his lower difficulty compared to Yang Jian. He snatched the silver medal with 585.75 points after he withdrew from the mixed 3m springboard with Chang Yani earlier in the afternoon.

"I withdrew from the mixed 3m springboard synchro for better performance in the platform. I thought that worked and helped me a lot. I was satisfied with my performance. I was thrilled to experience the breath-taking individual final," Yang said.

Aleksandr Bondar of Russia came third with 541.05 and 13-year-old Oleksii Sereda of Ukraine finished fourth on 490.50.
