TOKYO, July 26 (Xinhua) -- The Tokyo 2020 Olympic organizing committee announced on Friday details of the concepts behind "Tokyo Waterfront City", an area around Tokyo Bay that is to host several Olympic and Paralympic events and activities next summer.
Many of the urban and youth-focused sports events that will feature at the Olympics for the first time at Tokyo 2020 are slated to be held in the area.
The new events include 3x3 basketball, BMX freestyle, skateboarding, and sport climbing.
The organizers explained that the competition facilities will be installed in an urban environment, with the aim of appealing more directly to spectators and visitors, and also symbolizing the new area as a crucible for urban lifestyles and sports to join together during the Tokyo 2020 Games.
