Top Mexican filmmaker to receive award at Sarajevo Film Festival

SARAJEVO, July 26 (Xinhua) -- Double Oscar-winning Mexican director, producer and screenwriter Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu will receive the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo award at the 25th Sarajevo Film Festival (SFF) in August, the SFF revealed on Friday.

Inarritu won best director Oscars in 2014 and 2015 for movies "Birdman" and "The Revenant" respectively, and he will receive the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo award for his exceptional contribution to the art of film.

Mirsad Purivatra, director of SFF, expressed his great pleasure to honor Inarritu, a person "who keeps pushing the limits by transforming his unique artistic vision into unpredictable and outstanding movies".

"His films are characterized by a distinctive style and pace and they captivate and thrill audiences and film critics around the world," Purivatra said at a press conference in Bosnia and Herzegovina's capital Sarajevo.

The 25th SFF will feature a special projection of Inarritu's film "Birdman".

His six feature films, "Amores Perros", "21 Grams", "Babel", "Biutiful", "Birdman" and "The Revenant" have gained critical acclaim worldwide including two Academy Award nominations.

During eight days of the festival from August 16 to 23, a total of 53 films will be screened.
