BAGHDAD, July 27 (Xinhua) -- A civilian was killed and two others wounded on Saturday in a bomb explosion in a minibus outside the Shiite city of Karbala, the Iraqi military said.
The incident took place when the minibus was crossing a security checkpoint at the entrance of Karbala, some 110 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, the media office of the Iraqi Joint Operations Command said in a statement.
It said the security forces launched an investigation into the incident, and the minibus' driver is under interrogation.
A medical source in Karbala main hospital told reporters that they received a body of civilian and three people were admitted for treatment.
The security situation in Iraq was dramatically improved after the Iraqi security forces fully defeated the extremist IS militants across the country late in 2017, but sporadic attacks occurred in the war-ravaged country.
