China's Zhang loses in first round of San Jose WTA Open

WASHINGTON, July 30 (Xinhua) -- China's Zhang Shuai lost to Danielle Collins of the United States in full sets in the first round of the ongoing San Jose Open on Tuesday.

Zhang, ranked 36th in the world, lost the match 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 in two hours and 10 minutes while Collins won 71 percent on her first serve and converted on four out of eight break chances in the match.

The 30-year-old Zhang also lost in her women's doubles first round match in San Jose.

The San Jose Open, one of the warm-up tournaments in the run-up to the U.S. Open, will end on August 4.
