MACAO, July 31 (Xinhua) -- The government of China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) is ready to deploy the utmost effort to keep the public and their property safe from the coming storm, the SAR's Chief Executive Chui Sai On said at a meeting held here on Wednesday afternoon.
As the tropical storm Wipha is approaching, the Macao government and emergency response departments are doing their best to protect the safety of the people.
As of 10:00 p.m. local time (1400 GMT), the tropical storm Wipha is located about 270 km southwest of Macao and is moving toward the Leizhou Peninsula of southern China's Guangdong province, said the Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau.
The meteorological bureau has hoisted Signal No. 8 at 2:00 p.m. local time (0600 GMT) and issued yellow storm surge warning when the storm was 340 km away from Macao.
The Civil Protection Operations Center had been fully activated before the Signal No. 8 was issued. Macao SAR Chief Executive Chui Sai On chaired a meeting at the center to review the response mechanism with related government departments.
Chui also asked all members of the public to assist the government in its efforts to prevent typhoon-related disruption to the community.
Up to now, the Civil Protection Operations Centre said it has recorded 25 cases of incident report, such as damage of buildings and falling of trees. Four persons were injured due to the typhoon.
According to the latest information from Macao International Airport, 12 flights have been delayed and 118 flights cancelled up to now.
