SHENYANG, China, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- A 19.16-meter final round effort at the national trials for the 2019 Doha World Championships here on Friday gifted world champion Gong Lijiao the tenth title in the 2019 season. And the 30-year-old Chinese shot putter is still yearnig for more victories, especially a successfull defence of her world title in Doha.
"My expectation for the Doha worlds is simple. I want to retain the world title. And I will also compete at the Diamond League finals. If it is possible, I want to win all the competitions I take part in," said the ambitious Gong.
For the world top ranked Gong, she seldom meets any serious threat in national level.
She opened Friday's competition with a 17.56m first round effort, which was already good enough to seal the title as the best throw of the night for the runner-up Bian Ka was just 17.33.
Gong went on to achieve three over-18m marks and bowed out with her winning hurl of 19.16m.
"I am satisfied with today's performance. The Shenyang Olympic Stadium is one of my favourite venues. I won the gold medal at the 2013 National Games here and last month I took the vicotry at the National Championships here too," she said. "Next, I will focus on my build up for the World Championships in Doha."
