BUENOS AIRES, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Carlos Tevez scored his first goal of the new season as Boca Juniors secured a 2-0 victory away to Patronato in the Superliga Argentina on Sunday.

Eduardo Salvo struck with an early header and Tevez doubled the visitors' lead by controlling a Frank Fabra cross and firing a shot past goalkeeper Matias Ibanez.

The result ended Patronato's run of eight consecutive home matches without defeat and lifted Boca to fourth in the standings after their goalless home draw with Huracan in the first round.

"It shows that we're starting to click as a team and that the hard work that we've put into our training and preparation is paying off," Tevez said after the match.

The former Manchester United, Manchester City, Juventus and Shanghai Shenhua player said he was unconcerned about a lack of regular playing time under manager Gustavo Alfaro.

The 35-year-old started Sunday's match after being an unused substitute in Boca's 2-0 win over Brazil's Athletico Paranaense in the second leg of their Copa Libertadores last 16 clash last Wednesday.

"At my age I'm just happy to be playing and to be a part of this group," Tevez said. "A lot of players have left [during the off season] but now there's a new generation of young guys who are trying to prove themselves and that's something positive for the club."

In other Superliga matches on Sunday, Union won 2-1 at home to Defensa y Justicia, San Lorenzo won 1-0 at Gimnasia, Banfield secured a 1-0 home win over Estudiantes, and hosts River Plate overcame Lanus 3-0.
