TAIYUAN, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- The export of solar cells in northern China's Shanxi Province grew 220 percent year on year in the first half (H1) of 2019, according to the customs in the provincial capital city of Taiyuan.

The export reached 1.37 billion yuan (194.49 million U.S. dollars) in H1, the customs said on Friday.

"The customs will identify leading companies in solar cell business in the province and provide a series of services including information sharing for them," said Li Gang, head of enterprise management and inspection department of the customs.

As a major coal-rich province in the country, Shanxi has produced more than 19 billion tonnes of coal since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949.

The province plans to have a total power generating capacity of 110 GW by 2020, with the proportion of new energy at about 35 percent, according to an earlier local energy development plan for 2016-2020.
