TBILISI, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Three people were killed in a road accident in the central Georgian district of Kaspi on Wednesday, the country's Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

The accident happened when a car en route to Tbilisi lost control and crashed into the side barriers of a highway in Kaspi.

The fierce collision killed the two women and one man in the car. The driver was severely injured.

Authorities have sent the injured driver to a local hospital and launched an investigation into the accident.

According to the country's Ministry of Internal Affairs, 459 people were killed and thousands were wounded in road accidents in Georgia last year.

The ministry said that various measures, including installing more video-monitoring systems, will be taken to prevent an increase in road accidents in the country.
