TIRANA, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- The Beer Festival kicked off on Wednesday evening in the city of Korca, some 160 km southeast of Albanian capital Tirana.

Korca Beer Festival is the biggest beer event in Albania that is held every year in mid-August and lasts for five days.

From Aug. 14-18 visitors from across the country can enjoy the music program and the performance of over 50 artists as well as taste the Albanian beer that has taken the name of the city, Korca.

Korca beer is the first beer brewed in Albania and its brewery was established in 1928.

The Police Directorate of Korca informed earlier on Wednesday that they have taken measures to ensure the public order during the days of the festival.

This year the event will be held in three main areas, in front of the city stadium "Skanderbeg", the Old Bazaar and for the first time in the pedestrian area of the city.

Korca Beer festival was launched in 2007.

In 2010, the Albanian Ministry of Culture awarded the festival with the Tourism Award.
