American action movie "Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw" to hit Chinese screens

BEIJING, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- "Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw," the latest spin-off of "The Fast and the Furious" franchise, is set to be released in Chinese mainland cinemas starting Friday, according to Universal Pictures' official Weibo account.

Directed by David Leitch, the action film will feature Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham forming an alliance against a cyber-genetically enhanced villain that threatens the world.

The film was put on general release in the United States on Aug. 2 and has raked in 133.7 million U.S. dollars in North America for a global total of 437 million dollars through Sunday.

Released in 2017, the eighth installment in "The Fast and the Furious" franchise, "The Fate of the Furious," earned over 2.6 billion yuan (about 377 million U.S. dollars) on the mainland.
