BASEL, Switzerland, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Top seed Kento Momota successfully defended his men's singles title at the Badminton World Championships with a comfortable victory over Denmark's Anders Antonsen here on Sunday.
The 24-year-old world number one took only 38 minutes to win 21-9, 21-3.
It was Japan's second title at this year's tournament, following the women's doubles victory from defending champion Mayu Matsumoto/Wakana Nagahara, who beat compatriots Yuki Fukushima/Sayaka Hirota in a rematch of last year's final.
In the women's final, fifth seed Sindhu V. Pusarla became the first Indian to win a gold medal at the World Championships by crushing third seed Nozomi Okuhara of Japan.
Having faltered in three straight major event finals, the 24-year-old finally topped the podium with a comfortable victory of 21-7, 21-7 in just 36 minutes.
