BERLIN, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Striker Timo Werner has agreed a contract extension with RB Leipzig, the Bulls confirmed in an official statement on Sunday.

The German international has put pen to paper on a deal which ties him to the club until June 2023.

"We are glad that the negotiations with Timo Werner have now come to an positive end and he has decided to extend his contract with us," said Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff. "We are delighted that we have now clarity and that Timo remains an important part of our team."

The 23-year-old striker has been at Leipzig since summer 2016, and has scored 62 goals and made 28 assists in 116 competitive appearances for the club.

"I am happy that I signed with Leipzig and extended my contract. Of course, this process has been going on for a very long time but I really wanted to be completely sure that I could take the next steps in development here," Werner told the club's official website.

Leipzig currently sit second in the Bundesliga standings after starting with two wins into the new season.
