GENEVA, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- At least 40 people estimated to be dead or missing while around 60 people have been rescued and returned to shore in a shipwreck off the coast of Libya, the UN refugee agency UNHCR said on Tuesday.
Charlie Yaxley, spokesperson for UNHCR, announced the information in a tweet Tuesday. He added that more details are still to come as rescuers arrive on the scene and speak with survivors.
"Terrible news coming in of potentially large loss of life," he said.
